Week 9

Week 9 in the books!

Well, this week was pretty different. With the CTU strike looming from the beginning of the week, I was not really sure how this week would play out. My cooperating teacher and I decided on conducting class as usual. She has been taking over as lead teacher in most classes, but I was still teaching some and present in all classes to assist. We were still on science, and I had an observation by the college supervisor on Thursday. That day, I taught all three of the science blocks, per my cooperating teacher's request. She really liked the lesson and thought that the whole 5th grade should experience it from me. As far as the students were concerned, that would be their last lesson from me. The students threw me a beautiful party on Friday afternoon. The amount of love and appreciation I experienced was something I will fail to be able to put into words. I will miss these kids every single day! Although I will be there on Tuesday, I was unsure if the strike would last into the coming week and the administrator, cooperating teacher, and I decided it was best for the kids to go ahead with a goodbye celebration because we did not want to give the students false hope considering the unknown time the strike will last.

The administrator at this placement has allowed me the opportunity to stay at the school until the strike is over and I can move over to my second placement. Considering the unknown amount of time of the strike, the administrator suggested I take the coming week to observe in other classrooms- including special education classrooms- until we see what is happening with the strike. Several teachers at the school offered me a place to observe in their classrooms. I agreed because I did so much teaching at this placement, that I did not have an opportunity to observe other classrooms and grade levels. This week will give me that opportunity. Hopefully, the strike will be over by Tuesday morning, and I can begin my second placement on Wednesday! If it continues into the next week, we will meet and decide on resuming teaching responsibilities.

I have been working hard on edTPA, and I am hoping I can convey all the awesomeness in my edTPA lessons on paper! Well, that's really been my week in a nutshell. Signing off until next week!

  1. I'm sure you felt the love as you said your goodbyes. It must seem a little strange to now come back to the same school after all this. I have confidence that your expertise will shine in the edTPA.
